We spoke with model and Instagram influencer, Nicole Albarran (Ig: nicolealbarran)
If you were to describe yourself to a stranger in just a few minutes, what would you say? (work, interests, family life, hobbies etc.)
Nicole: I would say, I am a native New Yorker, living in Soho. Spanglish is my specialty. I am the oldest of three. Family is everything to me as are my dogs. I love to travel to exotic locals, workout, and most importantly live everyday as if it was my last. I have been told I am the life of the party.
What was your catalyst moment that sparked your interest in becoming a model and influencer?
Nicole: I never set out to become a "model" or "influencer." It started as an outlet to share my daily looks and loves. As my following and the amount of people interested in what I was sharing with them continued to grow, it motivated me to continue!
What was your big break? The moment where you said “Wow - I can’t believe i’m doing this?
Nicole: I wouldn't call it my "big break," but the moment I had that "wow" moment was when brands actually started paying me to style pieces from their collection into my looks and share them with my followers.
What are some of your favorite places to shop? Do you have any hidden gems?
Nicole: You'll have to follow me to find out!
How did you build such big following? Any tips or advice you would like to share?
Nicole: I believe staying true to my style has been a big part in growing my audience. I've turned down many opportunities to promote a brand or product that just isn't something I would wear or use - it's important to build trust in your followers. I also try to post at least once every day and keep everyone engaged with my stories. Don't forget to have some fun!
How do you think Instagram has changed the game for the modeling?
Nicole: Agents and modeling agencies are no longer the gatekeepers. There are no rules anymore, it doesn't matter your height, size, weight, or shape - Instagram has made the playing field more democratic.
What are your biggest healthy lifestyle and happy life tips?
Nicole: Stay hydrated! Get plenty of rest, and eat clean. I've been a vegan for 6 years. I'm also a huge gym freak! It's where I go to clear my mind and relax. I love to switch my workouts around otherwise I get bored. I rotate between my trainer, boxing, pilates, and barre throughout the week. Everyone is different though, listen to your body and find what works best for you! It's also so important to take a day off and and allow yourself a cheat day. I find when I'm craving something it's better to just have it otherwise you’ll overdo it another time! Moderation is key.
Is there anything else you want to tell your followers?
Nicole: Fashion is more about confidence then aesthetics - be fearless!
